Speakers Emily Vakili

Emily has a genuine commitment to building and nurturing meaningful relationships with Indigenous Nations and communities. Her consistent dedication to relationship-building has played an instrumental role in navigating the challenges of the BC permitting and environmental assessment process in her previous experiences in the mining industry. Through managing Indigenous-led assessments, Emily has gained invaluable insights and understands the importance of embracing diverse perspectives. Her approach is grounded in a commitment to mutual respect and understanding, and this dedication has resulted in strong relationships with several Indigenous Nations.

Emily’s academic experience includes a Master’s in Mining Engineering focused on mine environment and sustainability from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from UBC. Emily combines her technical knowledge, project management skills and genuine passion for community engagement to support sustainable development. She embodies the belief that sustainable initiatives in the natural resource industry are best achieved through authentic dialogue and collaboration.
