Speakers Honourable David Eby, K.C.

On Nov. 18, 2022, David was sworn in as premier at an event hosted by the Musqueam Nation. This first of its kind historic event was hailed as an important symbol towards reconciliation and strengthening government-to-government relationships.

David’s priority is protecting British Columbian families and jobs from unjust American tariffs by strengthening our economy and protecting the services people depend on. He is focused on addressing challenges facing housing, health care, public safety, and the cost of living.

David was first elected to the B.C. Legislature representing Vancouver-Point Grey in 2013 and has been re-elected three times.

In 2017, he was appointed Attorney General responsible for gaming and liquor policy and ICBC, and he gained the housing file in 2020. His work saved British Columbians money on car insurance and enhanced care benefits. His reforms to election financing got big money out of politics.

As Premier he’s focused on nation-leading housing initiatives like faster permitting, restricting short-term rentals, working with municipalities on building more housing, increasing rental, co-op and non-market housing supply, and cracking down on speculation.

In his first full year as premier, B.C. led the country in real GDP growth. In response to United States tariffs, he has led the way on eliminating interprovincial trading barriers while expanding trade with overseas partners.

David studied English at the University of Waterloo in Ontario before graduating from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University.

He worked as a human rights lawyer with Pivot Legal Society, executive director of the BC Civil Liberties Association, and an adjunct law professor at UBC.

David was raised in the middle-class suburbs of Ontario. His mother was a teacher and his father a lawyer. As the oldest of four siblings, he remains grounded in the values from his upbringing – a commitment to family, community, and to making the world a better place. David lives in Vancouver with his wife, a family doctor, and their three children. He steps away from the demands of day-to-day life by building pillow forts with his children, practicing yoga and enjoying the beauty of the west coast.
