Speakers Simon Pascoe
Simon Pascoe is the General Manager of Rio Tinto’s BC Works, based in Kitimat, British Columbia. With over 30 years of global experience in the mining and metals industry, Simon has held senior leadership roles across Australia, Spain, the United States, and Canada. He joined Rio Tinto in 2022, bringing a wealth of operational and strategic expertise from previous roles at Roy Hill and Alcoa, where he managed large-scale refinery operations and engineering portfolios.
Simon began his career as a Reliability Engineer at Alcoa and steadily progressed through roles including Refinery Manager at the Pinjarra and Kwinana Alumina Refineries and Operations Manager at the Point Comfort Refinery in Texas. His leadership style is rooted in operational excellence, sustainability, and community engagement, while driving cultural transformation, fostering strong leadership and cohesive teams, and enhancing workforce engagement.
He holds a degree from Curtin University and completed executive training in Business Strategy and Organizational Leadership at McKinsey Academy. At BC Works, Simon is focused on maintaining the smelter’s position as a global leader in low-carbon aluminum production, powered by renewable hydroelectricity from the Kemano facility. He is also deeply committed to strengthening relationships with Indigenous communities and fostering long-term regional development.
Simon’s leadership continues to guide BC Works through global challenges while reinforcing its role as a cornerstone of the Kitimat economy and community.
