Genevieve Latour is General Manager, Communities and Communications at Rio Tinto Aluminium, a global leader in producing some of the highest quality, lowest-carbon footprint aluminium in the world. Our BC Works operation in Kitimat comprises a newly modernized smelter and the Kemano Powerhouse, a hydropower facility supplied by the Nechako reservoir. In 2018, Rio Tinto became the first company to receive certification from the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative for producing to the highest internationally recognized standard for responsible environmental, social and governance practices.
Genevieve is passionate about delivering long term social and economic benefits for the communities in which Rio Tinto operates and broader society. With her teams based in Kitimat, Saguenay, Montreal and Iceland, she manages the $10M Rio Tinto Aluminium Canada Fund supporting projects in areas including health, education, vocational skills training, environment, and fighting inequality especially for our First Nations partners. She is leading Rio Tinto’s sustainability strategy in Canada by catalysing regional economic development in partnership with local community members, government, civil society and investors.
Genevieve holds a bachelor’s degree in communication and a master in Education. Her entire career was spent in communication, public relations, and community engagement with previous roles for Canada Post in Halifax, Dairy Farmers of Canada, University of Sherbrooke and now Rio Tinto. Outside work, she enjoys running marathons, biking, fishing, doing hot yoga or playing piano.
