  • Tuesday, January 16 - Northern Communities, Climate Action, and Sustainable Development

    Date: Tuesday, January 16, 2024

Time: Lunch at noon, program begins at 1:00pm

Northern communities are feeling the effects of climate change and are inspired to act to ensure their sustainability. Even though they have ideas, opportunities, and a can-do spirit, individual communities often feel they have limited capacity to make a difference.

This event prior to the start of the BC Natural Resources Forum will feature inspiring stories of success, provide opportunities for networking and relationship-building, and open doors to organizations that provide support and capacity related to energy, community development, and climate action.

What are some examples of local low-carbon initiatives that have been successful? What can we learn from them and from each other? What are the organizations that can help? These are the questions we’ll aim to answer together on the traditional, unceded territory of the Lheidli T’enneh.

    Who is encouraged to attend?
    •    Elected officials and senior staff from municipalities, First Nations communities, and regional districts who are interested in implementing local solutions that reduce – or eliminate – carbon emissions, boost local energy security, enhance local quality of life, and attract new opportunities.
    •    Staff with responsibility for community economic development, energy, resource management, and climate action.
    •    Organizations that provide financial and/or technical support to communities to enhance their resiliency and foster implementation of climate solutions, as well as those that provide education and training.

Register today. Space is limited: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/northern-communities-climate-action-and-sustainable-development-tickets-746186653367?aff=oddtdtcreator
